LUNGI – The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority is investigating a major fault on the transmission line from the newly commissioned 10MWp RESPITE Solar Power Plant in Lungi, which has left the township without power.

EDSA said the plant supplied electricity to Lungi for approximately three days after commissioning before supply was interrupted. The Authority attributed the outage to a fault on the newly constructed 12-kilometre, 11kV Medium Voltage line connecting the solar plant to the Lungi Power Station.

Technical teams are currently conducting a detailed fault investigation and network integrity assessment to determine the root cause and establish corrective measures for safe restoration of supply.

The Authority expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to consumers in Lungi and surrounding communities, and assured that engineers are working to resolve the matter as quickly and safely as possible.

EDSA said further updates will be issued as the investigation progresses and a restoration timeline is confirmed.

The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to the safe integration of renewable energy into Sierra Leone’s electricity network and to improving the quality and reliability of supply nationwide.
