Washington, D.C., United States | 26 March 2026 First Lady Fatima Maada Bio, also President of the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), has called for inclusive and ethical approaches to Artificial Intelligence during her participation in the Fostering the Future Together Global Coalition Summit at the White House.
The summit, initiated by Melania Trump, brought together leaders from more than 40 countries and international technology partners to discuss the future of innovation and its impact on society. Dr. Bio was among eight invited speakers selected to address the rapid rise of AI and its implications for communities worldwide.
Speaking in her dual capacity as First Lady of Sierra Leone and OAFLAD President, Dr. Bio said AI offers major opportunities for development but also requires strong responsibility in how it is integrated into modern life. She urged the design and adoption of people-centred AI systems that promote fairness and ensure that no group is excludedparticularly women and young people across Africa.
Participants at the summit, officials said, emphasized the need for coordinated global action so that technological progress benefits humanity. The discussions highlighted how innovation can support youth empowerment, improve education systems, and help protect shared societal values.
Dr. Bio further called on stakeholders to adopt a balanced approach promoting progress through technology while safeguarding communities and inspiring future generations.
