Security forces in Kambia District have arrested five Guinean nationals after intercepting a vehicle carrying a rifle and military uniform at a border crossing on Thursday, 2 July 2026.

The arrests were made during a routine border patrol, according to the Office of National Security. ONS Strategic Communications Spokesperson, Abdul Karim Will, told Truth Media that officers stopped and searched the vehicle after raising suspicions during the operation.

During the search, security personnel recovered one rifle and a military uniform. All five occupants were taken into custody and later transferred to the Kambia Police Division for further investigation.

Authorities confirmed that all suspects are Guinean nationals. One of them reportedly identified himself as a serving member of the Guinean armed forces.

The ONS said investigators are now working to determine the purpose of their entry into Sierra Leone and why the firearm and uniform were being transported across the border. The vehicle and recovered items have been seized as evidence.

“As of now, no formal charges have been filed,” Mr. Will stated. “Security agencies are continuing inquiries to establish the facts and determine if any laws have been violated. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.”

Border security in Kambia has been heightened in recent months amid concerns over cross-border movement and illicit arms. Officials say patrols will continue to monitor entry points to prevent security threats.
