The Family Support Unit (FSU) of the Sierra Leone Police has reaffirmed its partnership with the LAWYERS Organization to intensify efforts in protecting women’s rights and addressing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) throughout the country.

The collaboration follows a meeting on February 3, 2026, at the FSU Headquarters in Freetown, where FSU leadership and representatives from the LAWYERS Organization convened to strengthen their institutional partnership and coordinate responses to SGBV cases.

During the meeting, Ms. Melissa Sesay, the newly appointed President of the LAWYERS Organization, expressed gratitude for the warm reception and introduced her executive team to FSU management. She emphasized the organization’s commitment to supporting the FSU’s mission and outlined its core objectives, including advocating for the rights of women and children, providing legal assistance to SGBV survivors, and collaborating closely with law enforcement and judiciary to enhance access to justice.

Ms. Sesay highlighted the need for ongoing capacity building for FSU personnel and judicial officers, announcing plans to establish Sexual Offences Model Courts in the Falaba, Kailahun, and Kenema Districts. Additionally, she called for a review and strengthening of existing SGBV Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

In response, Superintendent Mohamed S. Y. Mansaray, Head of the FSU, assured the delegation of the Unit’s dedicated commitment to combating SGBV across Sierra Leone. He welcomed the renewed partnership and underscored the importance of sustained collaboration to enhance protection mechanisms for women and children.

The meeting concluded with both organizations reaffirming their mutual commitment to deepening cooperation and strengthening justice delivery systems for victims and survivors of SGBV in Sierra Leone.
