On October 9, 2025, Sylvanus Blake, Deputy Director of the Public Education and Outreach Department of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Sierra Leone, urged freshmen of the Law Department at IMATT College to reject corrupt practices and uphold the highest standards of integrity. His remarks came during an orientation ceremony held at the college’s Kingtom campus.
Blake opened his address by expressing gratitude to IMATT College’s administration for their collaboration with the ACC in promoting integrity and transparency within the education sector. He noted the establishment of an Integrity Club on campus, aimed at instilling ethical values in students.
“The legal profession thrives on integrity and discipline. It is essential that you commit to excellence from the very start,” he stated. “Uphold your integrity and always choose to do what is right, even when it is difficult or when no one is watching.”
He encouraged the students to work diligently and adhere to the college’s rules and regulations as they pursue their dreams of becoming lawyers. Blake emphasized that the law profession is esteemed and demands uncompromising adherence to core values such as integrity, discipline, and justice.
Referencing Section 128(3) of the Anti-Corruption Act 2008, as amended in 2019, he highlighted that educational malpractice constitutes a serious corruption offense, carrying penalties of up to five years in prison, fines of 50,000 Leones, or both. He warned that such practices undermine the credibility of education and hinder national development, reminding both students and faculty to avoid any actions that could be construed as corrupt, as the ACC remains vigilant in tackling all allegations of corruption.
In his opening remarks, IMATT College Director Amadu Justice Bah welcomed the new students and outlined the institution’s regulations designed to protect both students and faculty. He assured students of the administration’s commitment to fairness and justice, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy towards examination malpractices and a transparent grading process.
Adding a lighter touch to the event, ACC’s Public Education Officer and popular comedian Shaka Kamara, also known as Yemata, entertained the audience with motivational performances that underscored the importance of ethical behavior, accountability, and hard work. His engaging act brought laughter and excitement, reinforcing the message that integrity must be a priority in all aspects of life.
