The Judiciary of Sierra Leone has officially launched construction of its first dedicated health clinic, a move officials describe as a major milestone in staff welfare reforms.

The symbolic sod-turning ceremony took place today at the Main Law Courts Building. Hon. Chief Justice, His Lordship Justice Komba Kamanda, led the event alongside Deputy Minister of Health Prof. Charles Senesie and representatives of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The modern clinic, when completed, will provide on-site healthcare for judges, magistrates, and all Judiciary staff. Planned features include consultation and treatment rooms, a rest area, drug storage, backup power, running water, updated medical equipment, and resident nursing staff.

Deputy Master and Registrar, Mr. Lloyd Hindolo Jusu, said the facility addresses a long-standing need.
“Judicial work is mentally and physically demanding, especially for judges and magistrates handling complex matters daily. The wellbeing of our officers is critical to delivering justice efficiently,” he stated. He assured that the Judiciary will ensure proper management and maintenance for all personnel.

Chief Executive Officer of Alcon Construction Company, Engr. Alhaji Alieu J. Jalloh, thanked the Judiciary for the trust placed in his firm. He presented the architectural design and pledged that construction will meet all approved specifications and quality standards.

Representing the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Humanitarian Missionary Elder Lonnie Larson said the project forms part of the Church’s broader drive to strengthen institutions and support communities. He disclosed that Alcon emerged through a competitive bidding process after discussions with Hon. Justice Mohamed Baquee highlighted the need for a Judiciary health facility, an idea later taken up with Chief Justice Kamanda.

“We are encouraged by the Chief Justice’s commitment and the warm reception of this project. We believe this clinic will make a real difference for Judiciary staff,” Elder Larson noted.

The sod-turning marks the official start of construction and adds to a series of welfare and institutional reforms being driven under Chief Justice Kamanda’s leadership.
