The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED), in partnership with the Sierra Leone Association of Non-Governmental Organizations (SLANGO), has officially launched the NGO Gazette 2024-2025.

In her opening remarks, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Madam Kenyeh Barclay, emphasized the unique opportunities Sierra Leone offers for cooperation and public engagement. She recognized the vital role of NGOs in supporting government initiatives, commending over 600 registered organizations for their contributions to national development. Minister Barclay expressed gratitude to NGO management, staff, and donor partners for their commitment and assured ongoing government collaboration with NGOs whose activities align with national priorities.

Highlighting the diverse contributions of NGOs, she noted their impact in healthcare, education, youth and women’s empowerment, climate resilience, environmental protection, and human rights advocacy. Minister Barclay called for strengthened coordination and engagement, reiterating the shared responsibility of NGOs in building a resilient Sierra Leone. She concluded her address by officially launching the NGO Gazette 2024-2025, which provides an updated register of legally operating NGOs in the country.

Eric Massally, Director of NGOs at MoPED, praised the efforts of NGOs and emphasized that NGO Week is a time to acknowledge challenges while celebrating achievements. He outlined MoPED’s ongoing digitalization of NGO registration processes, enabling organizations to access online operational policies and registration information. Director Massally also detailed the structured coordination of NGOs, involving MoPED, SLANGO, and District Development Coordinating Committees (DDCCs), to promote inclusive operations.

The event served as a vital platform for dialogue, awareness, and collaboration among the government, NGOs, and the media.
