Sierra Leone’s National Revenue Authority officially opened a new border crossing post at Jendema on Monday, marking a step toward faster trade flows and tighter border management along the Liberia frontier.
The facility, commissioned in Sorogbema Chiefdom, brings upgraded customs infrastructure to a key entry point in the Mano River sub-region. NRA officials said the post is designed to improve revenue administration, cut clearance times, and enhance security monitoring.
“This is part of our commitment to modernization and institutional excellence,” said NRA Board Chairman Kabineh M. Kallon. He noted that the Authority is prioritizing infrastructure and reforms to strengthen border systems and increase domestic revenue mobilization.
Local leaders welcomed the project. A.J. Zoker, Chiefdom Speaker of Sorogbema, said the post would raise revenue and improve service for traders and travelers using the crossing.
Representatives from the Liberia Customs Authority, NRA board and management, and community chiefs attended the ceremony, underscoring cross-border coordination between the two countries. Officials said smoother, lawful trade operations at Jendema are expected to benefit businesses across the sub-region.
The Jendema post is one of several upgrades the NRA is rolling out to modernize customs operations and support economic activity through more efficient border controls.
