The National Water Resources Management Agency (NWRMA) has launched a toll-free helpline, 850, to improve public engagement and strengthen compliance with water regulations.
The helpline will provide information on water-use registration, procedures for securing and renewing Water Use Permits, clarification on regulatory fees and compliance standards.
Members of the public can also use the line to report illegal water abstractions, pollution and other environmental concerns.
According to NWRMA, the direct communication channel is designed to simplify access to regulatory information and encourage voluntary compliance among commercial enterprises, local suppliers and community users.
The Agency said the service will also support efforts to safeguard Sierra Leone’s river basins, aquifers and wetlands by enabling communities to promptly report threats to water resources.
The public is encouraged to use the service by dialling 850 from any Africell mobile line.
