Dambala Town — Police, in collaboration with Community Safety Volunteers (CSVs), have arrested Mohamed Bangura after he was discovered with four bales of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, along with an unregistered TVS Star motorcycle.

The apprehension occurred during routine patrols aimed at combating drug trafficking and other criminal activities in the area. Police sources confirmed that the seized items, including the motorcycle and the suspected narcotics, have been forwarded to the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU) Regional Office in Bo for further investigation.

This arrest is part of ongoing initiatives to tackle organized crime and drug-related offenses in Sierra Leone’s southern region. The suspect remains in custody as inquiries continue.

Drug trafficking has increasingly become a pressing issue in Sierra Leone, with security forces facing challenges in curbing the rising number of traffickers. In response, the Sierra Leone Police, alongside the military and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), recently launched a comprehensive campaign targeting illicit drug dealers in Freetown and other key cities.

With a growing number of substance abuse cases, particularly among youth, experts have urged the government to enhance surveillance at critical entry points, including the water quay and border crossings.
