FREETOWN — Sierra Leone has secured a US$5.8 million grant from the Government of South Korea to create green jobs for youth in agriculture.
The grant will fund the Green Jobs for Youth in Resilient Agrifood Systems project, with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) serving as technical partner.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka, joined other African agriculture ministers in Rome, Italy, to sign the project agreement.
The project will be implemented in four districts — Bo, Bombali, Kambia and Kono — focusing on equipping young women and men with modern agricultural skills, creating green and digital employment opportunities, and supporting youth-led cooperatives and small businesses.
The initiative is expected to boost the Feed Salone Agenda by encouraging youth participation in agriculture, strengthening food production and promoting sustainable livelihoods.
