Workers cited issues including compulsory Saturday work, unionization barriers, occupational safety failures, and environmental hazards.
Deputy Director Abdulai Conteh clarified legal provisions on leave entitlement and union rights, while Managing Director Kwame Waife pledged management’s commitment to structured engagement. The ministry will compile a report and follow up with recommendations and enforcement actions.
The meeting reflects the government’s strategy to balance investment with workers’ rights protection, with Minister Swaray noting strengthened provincial presence and work permit monitoring to prioritize Sierra Leoneans for jobs.
