Spanish Volunteers Enhance Sierra Leone’s Fire Services with Donation of Fire Engines

In a generous gesture aimed at bolstering emergency response capabilities in Sierra Leone, Spanish volunteers, led by José María Domínguez López, President of Ayuda Contenedores NGOs, have donated two fire engine trucks to the National Fire Force (NFF). The formal handover ceremony was held at the Ministry of Internal Affairs Conference Room on Gloucester Street in Freetown.

During the ceremony, Mr. Domínguez stated, “Our organization is dedicated to supporting institutions in Sierra Leone. These fire engines, accompanied by essential equipment and gear, will significantly enhance the National Fire Service fleet.” He also noted that training sessions for NFF personnel are currently underway to ensure safe and proficient operation of the new vehicles, adhering to standard operating procedures during fire-related emergencies.

Minister of Internal Affairs, Rtd. AIG Morie Lengor Esq., praised the volunteers for their commitment and selfless service. He remarked on the vital role that such contributions play in enhancing the NFF’s capabilities to safeguard public safety across the nation. “The Ministry oversees agencies responsible for internal security, and partnerships like this are crucial for strengthening our fire and rescue services,” he emphasized.

Minister Lengor reaffirmed the intent to foster ongoing collaboration and urged continued support for the Ministry’s initiatives. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Spanish volunteers and the people of Spain for their generous contribution, asserting the importance of utilizing the donated vehicles effectively in service of the community.

National Fire Force Chief, Alhaji Nazir Alie Kamanda Bongay, also extended his appreciation to Minister Lengor and the Spanish team, as well as Caritas in Freetown, for their vital support. He underscored the necessity of enhancing the fire service’s capacity to fulfill its mission and better serve the citizens of Sierra Leone.
