St. Edward’s Wins National Robotics for Good Crown

St. Edward’s Secondary School has been crowned national champions at Sierra Leone’s inaugural Robotics for Good Youth Challenge, securing the opportunity to represent the country at the global event in Geneva, Switzerland.

The grand finale, held at the Bintumani Conference Centre, featured the nation’s top student innovators competing for the top prize. St. Edward’s emerged victorious after a closely contested final against Government Secondary School, popularly known as Bo School.

Organised as part of a wider initiative to advance youth participation in technology, the competition followed a series of preparatory programmes and regional contests. Students were trained to develop practical robotics skills and strengthen problem-solving abilities before reaching the national stage.

The challenge was spearheaded by the Kamara Yokie Innovation Center, in collaboration with the **Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation, the **International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and *AI for Good.

In addition to the international qualification, the leading teams received cash awards to support further educational pursuits. St. Edward’s Secondary School (National Champions) received NLe 40,000 and an official slot for the Robotics for Good competition in Geneva, while Bo School received NLe 20,000 as First Runner-Up.

Participating schools were also recognized with consolation prizes, gifts, and ongoing professional mentorship.

Organisers commended all participating teams for their commitment and the high standard of innovation displayed throughout the maiden edition.
