Freetown, Sierra Leone – Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh on Tuesday commissioned a state-of-the-art administrative building for the Sierra Leone Correctional Service (SLCS), marking a significant milestone in the country’s security sector reform journey.

The new building, constructed at New England in Freetown, replaces an outdated facility that had served since 1961. In his address, Vice President Jalloh emphasized the government’s commitment to modernizing the correctional service, highlighting improvements in working conditions, salaries, uniforms, and training opportunities for officers.

“This project is part of a broader drive to restore pride and dignity within the institution,” he said, stressing that promotions would be based on merit, discipline, and training. He urged officers to see themselves as agents of change, tasked with transforming lives within the prison system.

Director General of SLCS, Joseph John Senessie, hailed the commissioning as a historic turning point, ending decades of operating from an outdated structure. He thanked President Julius Maada Bio, the Vice President, and partners for their support.

The new building is expected to enhance the efficiency and professionalism of the correctional service, contributing to national development.
