FA three-member delegation from the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has concluded a study tour of Ghana aimed at strengthening Sierra Leone’s vehicle safety policies and enforcement systems.
Led by SLRSA Secretary to the Authority and Board, Abu-Bakarr Sheriff Esq., the team engaged officials from Ghana’s Ministry of Transport, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), and the Ghana Standards Authority during meetings in Accra.
Sheriff said the mission was critical to enhancing Sierra Leone’s road safety framework. He noted that longstanding bilateral ties between the two countries provided a strong basis for knowledge exchange on transport regulation and safety compliance.
Host institutions briefed the delegation on operational procedures, legal frameworks, enforcement strategies, public awareness campaigns, and data management systems. Discussions also covered road safety planning and transport service oversight, with Ghanaian officials expressing readiness for deeper technical cooperation.
Delegates described the tour as “very productive,” saying it offered practical insight into how Ghana manages vehicle regulation challenges, including enforcement of standards on imported used vehicles and age limits.
The delegation comprised Sheriff; Arthur Brima, SLRSA Director of Transport; and Dr. Adams Steven, Senior Technical Director at the Ministry of Transport and Aviation. The team thanked Ghana’s NRSA for facilitating the engagements, and acknowledged support from the Ministry of Transport, DVLA, and the Ghana Standards Authority.
Prior to concluding the visit on Wednesday, 29 April, the delegation paid a courtesy call on the Sierra Leone High Commission in Accra on Tuesday, 28 April.
The study tour forms part of Sierra Leone’s efforts to adopt best practices in vehicle safety standards and regulatory enforcement.
