BIO, WORLD BANK PLEDGE STRONGER PARTNERSHIP

Freetown, Wednesday September 9, 2026, His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to deepening Sierra Leone’s strategic partnership with the World Bank Group.

The President made this statement yesterday during a courtesy call at State House by the Regional Vice President of the World Bank Group for Western and Central Africa, Mr. Ousmane Diagana, and his delegation.

Presenting the delegation, the Minister of Finance, Mr. Karefa Kargbo, expressed appreciation for the World Bank Group’s continued support to Sierra Leone. He noted the progress achieved through the longstanding partnership and referenced the Country Partnership Framework, which focuses on critical national priorities including expanding energy access, developing human capital, and strengthening infrastructure.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Diagana reaffirmed the World Bank Group’s commitment to Sierra Leone, describing the country as an important partner. He commended President Bio for his leadership as former Chairman of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government, and for his commitment to Mission 300.

In his response, President Bio described the partnership as dependable and impactful, noting that World Bank-supported interventions have produced tangible results across the country. He particularly highlighted bridges constructed through the partnership that have improved connectivity and supported economic and social activities.

President Bio reaffirmed his determination to further deepen the partnership and advance strategic investments that bring measurable and lasting improvements to the lives of citizens.

The meeting ended with both sides reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening development cooperation and delivering transformative investments for sustainable national development.
