The Audit Service Sierra Leone (ASSL) has been awarded a $40,000 grant from the General Court of Audit (GCA) of Saudi Arabia, aimed at bolstering the agency’s cybersecurity measures and enhancing its ICT operations.

This funding comes at a crucial time when the integration of digital tools in public auditing is becoming increasingly vital. As government processes continue to digitize, audit institutions are under pressure to ensure their systems are secure and that sensitive financial information is protected.

Facilitated through the International Organization for Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), this grant is part of a broader initiative designed to support audit agencies in developing and fragile states. It aligns with global efforts, including projects like the GSAI and PAP-APP, which focus on enhancing technical and institutional capacities.

With the grant, ASSL plans to conduct extensive cybersecurity training for its technical staff. The initiative aims to equip ICT personnel with the skills necessary to identify, prevent, and respond to cyber threats that may jeopardize sensitive public audit information. This training is essential as public sector institutions increasingly depend on digital infrastructure for daily operations and communication with government entities.

In addition to the training, the funding will also enable improvements to the agency’s overall ICT infrastructure, ensuring better preparedness against security risks. ASSL is committed to the long-term development of internal capabilities and systems that support its public accountability mandate.

The grant will also facilitate upgrades to the tools and technologies used in audits, enhancing the management of digital records and information storage. These advancements are expected to yield a more secure and efficient audit process.

This initiative is part of the ASSL’s broader strategy to modernize its digital infrastructure and improve the quality and reliability of its auditing processes. The agency is actively engaging with international partners and views this grant as a significant boost to its efforts in enhancing security and fulfilling its core functions in the public sector.

The Audit Service remains dedicated to improving its services to the public, reinforcing transparency and accountability in Sierra Leone.
