KENEMA – JM Mining Company has raised alarm over the premature termination of its security contract by the Sierra Leone Police and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces, warning that the move puts its operations and assets in the Kamboi Hills at risk.

JM Mining CEO Jerry raised the concern on August 15, 2026, during an engagement with members of the Parliamentary Committee on Mines, the Office of National Security and other security agencies in Kenema District.

Jerry said the company received a termination notice from SLP and RSLAF three days earlier, despite a binding agreement that includes a 60-day notice period. With 57 days still remaining, he described the early withdrawal as a breach of contract and inappropriate.

The CEO warned that pulling out security personnel before the notice period expires could leave the company’s campsite and equipment exposed to threats, damage and destruction.

He called for urgent intervention to ensure the terms of the agreement are respected while the dispute is addressed. According to Jerry, upholding contractual obligations is vital to protecting investments and maintaining stability in the mining sector.

The development has triggered public calls for the Parliamentary Committee on Mines to step in and facilitate a swift resolution. Stakeholders say JM Mining provides significant employment and economic activity in the region, and any prolonged disruption could undermine operations in the Kamboi Hills.

The situation has also sparked wider debate about the protection of businesses and enforcement of contracts in Sierra Leone, particularly in mining where security is critical to continuity.
