On July 28, 2025, authorities intercepted a significant shipment of contraband suspected to be tramadol at the Gbalamuya Border crossing in Kambia District. The operation was conducted by the National Revenue Authority (NRA) in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Police, the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces, and the Office of National Security.

During the operation, officials seized 79 gross and 9 small packets, along with 9 cards of tapentadol tablets (225 mg). Additionally, the driver of the vehicle, identified as Mohamed Jalloh, was found with an impressive haul of 135 Android mobile phones, including 120 Samsung Galaxy A06 models, alongside various other devices.

The vehicle, registered in Guinea under the number BC 1785.Bio, was reportedly en route to Freetown when it was stopped by the authorities. The successful interception is credited to the NRA’s increased vigilance, which mandates thorough declaration and examination of all consignments entering the border.

Following the seizure, the contraband, Jalloh, and the mobile phones were handed over to Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Bob M.N. Mansaray, the Local Unit Commander of the Kambia Division, for further investigation. The NRA and collaborating agencies agreed that the mobile phones would be returned to Customs for appropriate declaration and duty payment, in accordance with the law.
