The All Peoples Congress (APC) has formally contested a fine of Le120,000 imposed by the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC), alleging a breach of the Political Parties Act. In a letter dated November 18, 2025, the APC accused the PPRC of “selective enforcement” and a concerning lack of neutrality in its regulatory actions.
The party’s National Secretary-General, Lansana Dumbuya, Esq., questioned the validity of the PPRC’s claim that District Chairman Hon. Lahai Marah violated Section 39(1) of the Political Parties Act No. 25 of 2022. “The APC is not aware of any verified incidents involving the District Chairman that would constitute a breach,” Dumbuya stated.
In light of a political environment characterized by manipulated audio recordings and distorted social media content, the APC argued it is essential for the PPRC to conduct thorough investigations before taking regulatory action. The party expanded its critique beyond the specific allegations, expressing broader concerns about perceived bias.
Dumbuya noted, “Statements made by influential members of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) have not triggered similar responses, fostering a perception of inconsistency in enforcement.” He reminded the PPRC that its credibility is contingent upon its ability to act as a fair and impartial regulatory body. “Neutrality should not be viewed as optional; it is critical to its mandate,” he emphasized.
To ensure due process, the APC has issued two formal requests:
- The PPRC must supply the complete, unedited, and verifiable evidence, including metadata backing its allegations.
- No penalties should be imposed until the evidence is verified and the APC has had an opportunity to respond.
The APC reaffirmed its dedication to political stability, committing to the Joint Agreement signed on November 11, 2025, while stressing that all parties involved must adhere to the principles of fairness and restraint.
