LUMLEY, Sierra Leone — The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the One Love Salone Foundation, has officially inaugurated the Wanpole Fish Seafood Stall at Lumley Beach. This initiative, launched on July 8, 2025, aims to empower women and enhance the local tourism landscape.
The Wanpole stall is strategically positioned near Lumley Beach, an area bustling with hotels, restaurants, and bars, making it a prime location for fresh seafood. The Ministry reports that the new facility is already benefiting nearby tourism businesses and addressing longstanding challenges faced by fishmongers, who previously operated under inadequate conditions.
During the commissioning ceremony, Fatmata Carew, General Manager of the National Tourist Board, emphasized the importance of the venture. She praised the collaboration with the One Love Salone Foundation, noting that it aligns with the board’s 2025 campaign, dubbed the “Year of Ecotourism.” Carew urged fishmongers to prioritize proper waste management to maintain the cleanliness of the beach, ensuring a pleasant experience for both locals and visitors.
With the slogan “Tourism Bizness, Na All Man Bizness,” the initiative encourages other organizations to replicate this model, contributing to Sierra Leone’s emergence as a premier destination for both local and international tourists.
