The Government of Sierra Leone will hold the 52nd Governing Council Meeting of the African Regional Labour Administration Centre (ARLAC), alongside a High-Level Symposium on “Advancing Decent Work in the Platform Economy.” The event is scheduled for March 9 to March 13, 2026, at the Mamba Point Hotel, Lagoonda in Freetown.
This high-profile gathering will convene Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, Directors-General, Chief Directors, and senior labour administration officials from ARLAC member states throughout Africa.
The symposium aims to enhance labour governance frameworks to address emerging challenges and opportunities within the platform economy, ensuring that innovation and digital transformation lead to decent work, fair wages, and strong social protections for workers.
As an intergovernmental organization, ARLAC is dedicated to strengthening labour administration systems across Africa through training, research, consultancy, advisory services, and publications. It operates alongside two other networks: the Centre Régional Africain d’Administration du Travail (CRADAT) for French-speaking countries based in Yaoundé, Cameroon, and the Arab Centre for Labour Administration and Employment (ACLAE) based in Tunis, Tunisia.
A session of senior officials will precede the Governing Council Meeting on March 10, 2026, where key policy and administrative matters will be discussed in preparation for the Council’s formal session.
The opportunity for Sierra Leone to lead this significant event underscores the nation’s rising influence in labour governance and its commitment to promoting decent work standards across Africa. The conference is expected to foster policy dialogue, enhance regional cooperation, and develop collective strategies to strengthen labour administration systems in line with the evolving global labour market.
