New York, March 4, 2026 Sierra Leone’s Statistician-General, Andrew Bob Johnny, and Francis Tommy, Director of the National Statistical System, are participating in the 57th Session of the United Nations Statistical Commission in New York City from March 3 to March 6, 2026.
This session convenes representatives from National Statistical Offices (NSOs) and statistical institutions worldwide.
Key discussions focus on:
- Social and demographic statistics
- Data governance
- AI readiness for statistics and data science
- Environment and climate change statistics
- Well-being measurement
The Sierra Leone delegation will also engage in side events with international partners, including:
- Esri (Environmental Systems Research Institute): Assisting with data collection infrastructure for Statistics Sierra Leone.
- United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA): The UN agency for population affairs.
- United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA): Supporting census and statistical development in Africa.
Outcomes from this engagement are expected to enhance preparations for the upcoming 2026 Population and Housing Census and improve key statistical and governance initiatives in Sierra Leone.
