Freetown, Sierra Leone – A General Assembly meeting at the university on April 13, 2026, was marked by intense debate and concerns over reports of the Vice-Chancellor’s alleged suspension. The meeting, convened to update students on academic and welfare issues, brought together students and leaders to address pressing concerns.
Student Union President Fela questioned the legality of the reported suspension, citing the University Act No. 5 of 2021, and demanded clarification from the Governing Council. “There has been no official confirmation communicated to the Student Union regarding the alleged suspension,” he stated, urging students to remain calm.
The assembly also heard updates on academic matters, including the publication of grades and release of second semester certificates. Campus Governor John Bobson reported that first semester exams were conducted peacefully, attributing it to constructive engagement between the Student Union and university administration.
The meeting highlighted ongoing efforts to improve student welfare, including advocacy for better water and sanitation, classroom conditions, and student representation in decision-making processes. The Student Union President called for unity among students, emphasizing their collective voice in protecting the institution’s integrity.
The assembly ended with an open forum, allowing students to express concerns and seek clarification on governance and academic matters, marking a significant moment in the university’s ongoing administrative discourse.
