The Vice President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh on Tuesday urged more than 800 intending pilgrims to uphold unity and discipline as he bade them farewell at Gaddafi Mosque, east of Freetown, following a two-day Hajj orientation.
The orientation covered spiritual, physical, and medical preparation for the pilgrimage, drawing officials and religious leaders who offered prayers and practical guidance ahead of departure.
Commending the Presidential Task Force and mosque authorities, Jalloh said: “This place is big, nice, and very conducive.” He noted that since 2018, government has streamlined Hajj management, expanded access, and reduced logistical hurdles. “We want more Sierra Leoneans to have the opportunity to perform Hajj,” he said.
The Vice President reminded pilgrims that all are equal in the Holy Land and urged strict adherence to instructions. He specifically asked younger pilgrims to assist the elderly and avoid disputes. “You are going to seek forgiveness, so respect one another and avoid complaints,” he said.
Saudi Ambassador to Sierra Leone Saud Al Musaed hailed bilateral ties and described the Hajj as a marker of cooperation and shared faith. “We pray that Allah accepts your Hajj,” he said, while praising both governments and the Office of the Vice President for their coordination. He called for patience, discipline, and compliance with all guidelines to ensure safety.
Deputy Social Welfare Minister Mohamed Haji Kella credited Jalloh’s leadership for enabling more than 7,600 Sierra Leoneans to perform Hajj since 2018. “You have faithfully led this process and delivered for the country,” Kella said, also acknowledging Saudi support.
Speaking for the pilgrims, Alpha Wurie thanked the Vice President and the Task Force, calling the orientation productive and instructive on Hajj rituals. He pledged that pilgrims would follow all protocols and apply lessons learned throughout the journey.
