World Cup Travelers Told: Exit On Time Or Face Visa Ban

The U.S. Embassy in Freetown has issued a firm warning to Sierra Leoneans traveling to America for the FIFA World Cup: leave the United States before your authorized stay expires, or risk losing future access.

In an advisory released ahead of the tournament, the Embassy urged travelers to monitor their I-94 travel record. The document, officials said, shows the exact last day a visitor is legally permitted to remain in the U.S.

The Embassy cautioned that overstaying, even by a day, can lead to automatic visa cancellation, deportation, and bars on future U.S. visas for travel, study, or work.

“Know Your Stay, Protect Your Future,” the statement read. Officials said overstaying could permanently affect a person’s ability to return to the United States.

Travelers were advised to check their I-94 status online regularly. They were also told to either depart before their authorized period ends or apply for an approved extension in advance.

The warning comes as thousands of international fans prepare to enter the U.S. for the World Cup. U.S. immigration authorities say compliance will be strictly enforced during the event.

Embassy officials stressed that respecting visa terms is essential for keeping future educational, employment and tourism opportunities open.
