The British High Commission’s Alumni Caravan made a notable stop at the Ministry of Communication, Technology, and Innovation to honor Madam Aminata Irene Omaru Tholley, a distinguished Commonwealth alumna and a pivotal figure in Sierra Leone’s digital transformation.
British High Commissioner Josephine Gauld is currently touring the country to engage with Chevening and Commonwealth alumni, celebrating their achievements and contributions as part of the UK’s soft power outreach in Sierra Leone.
Madam Tholley, who has previously served as Chief Technology Officer in three government ministries, now holds the position of Deputy Director of Policy, Planning, and Compliance. She is instrumental in spearheading national digital reforms, including the development of key legislative frameworks such as the Digital Government Bill, the DSTI Bill, the SALPOST Bill, and policies on open-source technologies, email usage, acceptable ICT guidelines, AI diagnostics, and partner engagement.
Her appointment is part of a strategic initiative by the Minister to enhance female leadership within the Ministry, reflecting a commitment to inclusive and values-driven governance in Sierra Leone’s digital landscape.
Commissioner Gauld highlighted that Madam Tholley is not only a Commonwealth Scholar and TechWomen Fellow but also a dedicated public servant, emphasizing that when women are in leadership positions, transformative change is possible.
