Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, has praised teachers as the foundational pillars of nation-building, emphasizing their vital role in shaping the country’s future.

Speaking at the 2025 Presidential National Best Teacher Awards ceremony at the University of Makeni on Saturday, October 4, Dr. Jalloh stated, “Every Sierra Leonean, regardless of their humble beginnings, can trace their journey back to a teacher.” He highlighted the significant influence of educators in various professions, saying, “Doctors, engineers, farmers, security personnel, businesspeople, and leaders — we were all shaped by teachers. They are not just instructors; they are nation builders.”

The Vice President urged attendees to recognize the contributions of teachers by inviting all educators present to stand for applause. “This is a testament to your immense contribution to state-building,” he remarked. He reiterated that teachers and education are central to President Julius Maada Bio’s development agenda.

Dr. Jalloh outlined the government’s investments in education, stating, “We have expanded access, trained and equipped teachers, provided learning materials, and improved school infrastructure. Learning can only occur with teachers at the forefront. This is why President Bio established the Presidential National Best Teacher Award — to symbolize your value and contributions to our society.”

He assured educators of the government’s steadfast support: “Our commitment to education is unmatched and unshakable. Education has been a core belief of the SLPP since its founding in 1951, and we are dedicated to ensuring that every child, rich or poor, has the opportunity to attend school and secure a better future.”

In closing, he declared, “Long live our teachers, long live Sierra Leone, and long live our commitment to education. When you say education, you say SLPP.”
