Moyamba, Sierra Leone – President Julius Maada Bio joined young agripreneur Sherilyn Cowan at her 60-hectare maize farm in Taiama Town for a symbolic harvest on Friday, October 10, 2025. The farm, operated by Sherilyn’s Enterprise for National Change (SENC) and supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS), exemplifies the government’s commitment to advancing agricultural development.
During the event, President Bio emphasized his administration’s vision of transforming agriculture into a viable business sector that generates employment, enhances food security, and fosters national self-sufficiency. He remarked that farming is one of the most sustainable avenues for empowering communities and fortifying Sierra Leone’s economy.
“Feed Salone is not just a government initiative; it is a rallying cry for every Sierra Leonean. By growing our own food and investing in agriculture, we can secure our nation’s future and lift millions out of poverty,” President Bio stated.
He praised Madam Cowan for her innovation and leadership in large-scale maize production, noting that her achievements reflect the spirit of youth-driven agribusiness and the inclusive national development championed by the Feed Salone agenda.
“What Sherilyn is doing perfectly embodies the essence of Feed Salone—empowering young people to transform agriculture into a modern, profitable, and sustainable enterprise,” the President added.
This event was part of President Bio’s two-day assessment tour, which also included visits to the Rokupr Research Station, the Mile 91 National Seed Testing Laboratory, and his own 1,000-acre cashew farm, all aimed at evaluating the progress of the Feed Salone Programme in its second year.
