Freetown, Sierra Leone. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has convened with the Minister of Public Administration and Political Affairs, Hon. Amara Kallon, to discuss significant advancements and future priorities in the public sector reform initiative of Sierra Leone. The meeting took place at the UNDP office in Freetown and underscored the ongoing commitment to modernizing government services.
During the discussions, Mr. Fredrick Ampiah, UNDP’s Resident Representative, commended the Ministry for securing Cabinet approval of the newly endorsed Public Service Reform Roadmap. He described this milestone as a pivotal move toward establishing a more efficient, transparent, and citizen-focused public service. “UNDP is dedicated to partnering with the Ministry and various stakeholders to empower public sector institutions, ensuring they deliver effectively and equitably to all citizens,” Ampiah stated.
Hon. Amara Kallon expressed gratitude for the UNDP’s continuous support, recognizing the organization’s technical assistance as vital to the government’s reform efforts. Looking ahead to 2026, Kallon outlined the Ministry’s key priorities, including strengthening institutional accountability, enhancing human resource management, and fostering innovation within public institutions.
The meeting also identified new avenues for collaboration between UNDP and the Ministry, aligning their initiatives with national development goals and the government’s commitment to good governance and sustainable development.
The endorsement of the Public Service Reform Roadmap represents a decisive step toward transforming Sierra Leone’s public sector—making it more responsive, professional, and accountable while ultimately improving outcomes for citizens and supporting the nation’s long-term development aspirations.
