Freetown, Sierra Leone. The Parliament of Sierra Leone has officially approved Ing. Tiideni Hawa Jabbi as the first female Managing Director of the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO), marking a historic milestone for the organization.
The decision, made on November 11, 2025, was met with widespread approval from parliamentary members, SALWACO staff, and the public. During a ceremony held at the SALWACO Headquarters in Freetown, MD Jabbi articulated her commitment to enhancing the company’s service delivery and operational conditions.
“Unity and service delivery will be the core principles guiding our work,” Jabbi declared, emphasizing her eagerness to collaborate with all staff to realize SALWACO’s mission and vision. She expressed gratitude towards her predecessor and all employees for their contributions thus far.
In her initial address to the press, Jabbi highlighted the importance of strategically positioning SALWACO and ensuring productivity within the organization. She insisted that teamwork must remain a priority and encouraged all staff members to focus on delivering impactful results.
Ing. Jabbi’s impressive credentials include her appointment in 2019 as the first female Director of Planning, Research, and Operations at the National Water Resources Management Agency (NWRMA). She also made history in 2016 as Sierra Leone’s first female water engineer and was the first female engineer appointed by the Guma Valley Water Company in 2011.
The anticipation surrounding her leadership is high, with hopes that she will drive significant advancements in service delivery and institutional progress at SALWACO. The ceremony was attended by notable figures, including SALWACO’s Board Chairman Mr. Joe Ndanema and Deputy Managing Director Apostle Dr. Albert Harrison Harvey, alongside other directors and staff.
