President Julius Maada Bio has handed over grant cheques to 1,000 entrepreneurs in Makeni under the National Commission for Social Action’s Productive Social Safety Nets and Youth Employment Project, in a move the Government says is aimed at boosting small businesses and youth livelihoods in the Northern Province.
Each beneficiary will receive US$300, bringing the total disbursement to US$300,000. The grants, implemented by NACSA, are intended to strengthen micro-enterprises, increase household incomes, and create sustainable economic opportunities for young people.
The symbolic presentation was part of President Bio’s visit to Makeni, where he reiterated his administration’s focus on expanding social protection and using entrepreneurship to reduce poverty and stimulate local growth.
During the same visit, the President launched the third edition of the MoICE Updates Magazine, a Ministry of Information and Civic Education publication that highlights government projects, achievements, and development priorities across sectors.
Addressing residents at a Presidential Town Hall in Makeni, President Bio described the forum as historic, saying he is the first Sierra Leonean President to hold such a direct engagement with citizens. He said the meeting underscored his government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
“I was thrilled and energized during today’s event in Makeni. We passionately reaffirmed our dedication to transparency and accountability,” President Bio said, adding that he used the platform to outline government achievements and future plans while thanking residents for their hospitality.
Officials said the grant disbursement and town hall were part of a broader effort to advance inclusive development, economic empowerment, and citizen participation in governance in Makeni and across the country.
