Persons living with disabilities in Sierra Leone are set to benefit from a new Digital Inclusion Training Centre, following a partnership between the Orange SL Foundation and ActionAid Sierra Leone.
The two organizations formalized the collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding signed in Freetown. The ceremony drew representatives from both organizations, the Ministry of Social Welfare, and the disability community.
Mrs. Annie Wonnie-Katta set the tone with a declaration of purpose for the initiative. Addresses were later delivered by ActionAid SL Country Director, Mr. Foday-Bassie Swaray, and Orange SL CEO, Mrs. Aicha Toure.
Chief Commissioner Brima Abdulai Sheku represented the Ministry of Social Welfare and reaffirmed government support for inclusive digital programmes.
The signing and exchange of the MoU formed the centrepiece of the event. Mr. Joseph Alieu Kamara, representing persons with disabilities, gave the closing remarks.
The planned centre will focus on digital literacy, vocational skills training, and access to assistive technology. Organizers say it is intended to reduce the digital divide and create equal opportunities in education, employment, and civic engagement.
Officials stated that the project reflects Orange SL Foundation’s commitment to social inclusion and ActionAid SL’s focus on marginalized communities. They added that the facility will be tailored to the needs of persons with disabilities nationwide.
