A Sierra Leonean national, Favour Foday Kamara, has been remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre in Lagos over an alleged $190,324 property fraud involving a 70-year-old US-based Sierra Leonean woman.

Kamara was arraigned on Tuesday, 20th October, 2026, before Justice O. A. Okunuga of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja by operatives of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ikoyi.

According to the EFCC, the case stems from a petition filed by Mrs. Henrietta Vandi, a 70-year-old Sierra Leonean resident in the United States, who alleged that she met Kamara during a visit to the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) between 2019 and 2020, during which he encouraged her to invest in Nigeria.

Investigations revealed that Vandi allegedly sent a total of $190,324 to Kamara through Ria, Western Union, MoneyGram and direct cash transfers into his Access Bank account for the purchase and renovation of a property located at 20/30 Gbenga Ogunleye/Atobatele Street, Cele Bus Stop, Araromi, Alimosho, Lagos.

However, EFCC investigators alleged that Kamara purchased the property in his own name, moved into it, and has been collecting rent from tenants in the property.

Following the conclusion of investigations, the anti-graft agency arraigned Kamara on a two-count charge bordering on stealing and fraudulent conversion of funds.

One of the charges reads: “That you, Favour Foday Kamara, between August 2021 and February 2025, at Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, dishonestly converted to your use the sum of $190,324.00 USD (One Hundred and Ninety Thousand Three Hundred and Twenty-four United States Dollars), property of one Mrs. Henrietta Vandi, thereby committing an offence of stealing, contrary to Sections 278(1)(b) and 285(9) of The Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.”

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him in court.

Prosecuting counsel, Nnaemeka Omewa, thereafter requested a trial date and urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional facility pending trial.

Justice Okunuga subsequently adjourned the matter to 29th October, 2026, for trial, and ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.
