Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Russia, His Excellency Mohamed Yongawo, has called on 12 newly qualified medical doctors to return and apply their skills to the country’s health sector and development goals.
The graduates were honoured at a farewell ceremony held at the Sierra Leone Embassy in Moscow, following the completion of their medical studies.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Yongawo congratulated the doctors and delivered felicitations from President Julius Maada Bio, Vice President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, the Ministers of Technical and Higher Education and Health, and the Government and people of Sierra Leone.
He described their achievement as a proud moment for the nation.
“I am a very proud Ambassador and a father today, seeing you raise the Green, White and Blue flag of our beloved Mama Sierra Leone high on the international stage,” he said.
The Ambassador urged the graduates to bring their expertise home to help strengthen healthcare delivery and support broader national priorities.
A total of 25 Sierra Leonean students graduated this year from institutions in Moscow. Twelve of them qualified as medical doctors — 10 from RUDN University and two from another university in the Russian capital.
Head of Chancery, Mr. Ibrahim Saspo Sankoh, also spoke at the event. He commended the graduates for their resilience and advised them to complete post-graduation requirements, including verification and notarisation of their academic certificates.
The new doctors thanked Ambassador Yongawo and Embassy staff for their support and open-door policy, which they said contributed significantly to their success in Russia.
The ceremony concluded with refreshments in a celebratory atmosphere.
