Dutch Justice Minister David Van Weel has intensified pressure on Sierra Leone to extradite wanted drug fugitive Jos Leijdekkers, popularly known as “Bolle Jos,” insisting The Hague will not relent until he faces trial on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
Speaking on AYV’s State of the Nation, Van Weel said intelligence available to the Dutch Government indicates that Leijdekkers has been hiding in Sierra Leone for several years.
He revealed that the Netherlands submitted an extradition request to Freetown years ago, but accused the process of stalling.
“For us, I think the time has come to speed up this process. We are ready to receive him, and we are ready to assist Sierra Leone in any way we can to have a safe transfer,” Van Weel said.
The Minister issued a stern warning over the Netherlands’ resolve to secure Leijdekkers’ return, citing the damage his alleged criminal network has caused to Dutch society.
“We will not rest until this individual makes it into jail,” he declared, adding that Dutch authorities had uncovered corruption and other serious consequences linked to the fugitive’s operations.
Van Weel disclosed that he recently met Sierra Leone’s Minister of Justice and Attorney-General Alpha Sesay in Ghana, where both extradition and broader judicial cooperation were discussed. He urged Sierra Leonean authorities to accelerate action and reiterated the Netherlands’ readiness to provide logistical and legal support.
The Dutch minister’s comments have renewed public and diplomatic scrutiny over Leijdekkers’ alleged presence in Sierra Leone and the status of the pending extradition request.
The development places fresh focus on judicial cooperation between Freetown and The Hague as pressure mounts for progress on the case.
